G3 Sniper / Assault Rifle
Carrying a heavier punch than the 5.56 C8 or M16, the Heckler & Koch G3 fires a powerfull 7.62 round. The rifle has been around for decades in a range of variants.
The G3KA4 variant has a shorter barrel and retractable stock than the fullsize G3. Due to tis stopping power, the G3KA4 was a favourite of The Special Air Service and 14 Intelligence company when operating in Northern Ireland. Thanks to Lybian arms shipments, the IRA fielded a large number of the fullsize G3s during the Troubles.
A special sniper version of the rifle, the G3SG1 features a special barrel, scope, cheek-plate attachment on the stock and a bipod. The G3 and G3SG1 are used by SBS sniper teams aboard Lynx helicopters during Maritime Counter Terrorism (MCT) operations.
It's believed that the SBS has also used a very short G3 variant, the MC5.
